Jeff Farrow

The typical core member of a gliding club that makes that immediate impression on you: Loud and boisterous, quick to dish out orders, chatty and friendly and more than willing to share their days’ accomplishments with the rest of the club around the evening beer.

Then there’s Jeff Farrow who can be described in two words as the ‘quiet achiever’. At times it can be forgotten just how important Jeff is to the day to day running of the Club.

Jeff joined GGC in the late ‘80’s. He usually attends the Club most Sundays. He spent a time on the Club Committee as Treasurer.

Jeff spends a lot of time in the workshop. He has a Form 2 certificate and will work till long after dark to ensure his assigned club glider is back in the air in a timely manner. He has assumed the role of workshop director and takes charge of procuring and purchasing spare parts for the rather large Geelong fleet including the maintaining club instruments, flarms and radios. This is an ongoing, never-ending and thankless task. While most of us are quick to write up minor defects during a daily inspection, Jeff is one of the few who makes sure they get dealt with and are signed off.

For years, Jeff has been processing the daily flight sheets and has kept an accurate record on all types of statistics which he can call up and present to the instructors panel, committee and club AGM.

During the soaring season, on Fridays and Saturdays, Jeff presents an excellent weather synopsis to club members and other BM clubs by the online forum detailing what the gliding conditions will be so that we can plan our flying for the weekend and get the best out of the day.

Jeff’s ability as a pilot and his exceptional airmanship can be best described by the fact that he was asked to join the Cherokee Janus syndicate.
Jeff attends most Club camps and VSA events, a regular at the Mt Beauty coaching & Ararat wave events. He is an OO and a rated Coach. His gentle encouragement and easy manner make him a very pleasant fellow to fly with. He makes his Janus available for coaching club members and for flying AEF groups.

Jeff is a highly regarded member of the Geelong Gliding Club and of the general Gliding Community and is most deserving of the accolade “Living Treasure” Thank you Jeff.
