Kevin Olerhead
Kevin Olerhead
Kevin has been flying gliders since the early 1970’s. For many years, he has been involved in both the airworthiness and the operations side of gliding, including serving for around 5 years with the GFA as RTO Operations Vic / Tas and then for about 20 years as CTO Operations.
On a local level, Kevin has served the Grampians Soaring Club as President on 2 occasions, for a total of 6 years. He has served as a level 1, 2 & 3 flying instructor, and as CFI twice over a similar number years. In recent years he has served as a level 2 ground instructor supporting our operations and mentoring our junior instructors and pilots. He has served as airworthiness officer at our club for many years. Being involved in general club maintenance, Form 2 inspections & repairs on the airworthiness side of the house.
Kevin has also been a pinnacle of GSC’s instructors panel at every level and train many Glider Pilots and flying instructors. Frankly, without his contribution our club would have struggled to operate.
On a national basis we believe Kevin is held the highest respect with many Pilots & Clubs alike. Kevin has played a key role for GFA Ops Panel, developing many documents, OD’s and reviews of BGK, Instructors manual and the current GPC system. Also at a grass roots level having supported many Instructor courses and clubs for development & instructor training.
His ongoing commitment and enthusiasm for our sport makes him a worthy recipient of this honour.
