Jarek Mosiejewski

Jarek Mosiejewski

Jarek joined the Geelong Gliding Club in August 1994 becoming an air experience instructor later that year, a L1 instructor in 2006 and a coach and L2 instructor in 2007. He served as the Chief Flying Instructor from 2011 – 2014 leading the Training Panel to ensure that a high standard of operational safety was maintained by all members.

Jarek has led by example, both as a regular cross-country and competition pilot achieving may accolades, and a contributor to events, and club life. He has won the Geelong club’s Best and Fairest award seven times over the last 12 years, from the many OLC points earned through his cross-country flying and contributions to the club.

Jarek has been a significant presence at Horsham Week, where he has been a competitor and winner in either 15 m or Club Class on seven occasions since 2008, and contributor to the organisation of the event, e.g., as weatherman, tasksetter and webmaster. His enthusiasm for photography has captured many galleries of memories over the years to be shared eternally on several gliding websites.

As an expert in computing and information systems, Jarek has significantly contributed through his role as webmaster, building and maintaining the Geelong club’s external and internal websites, as well as the Horsham Week website and, until recently, the VSA website. Jarek also migrated the club’s records and data to a cloud environment (as any glider pilot should) and designed and built the club’s Online Instructor Records to monitor the training of students.

Jarek has been an inspiring coach and mentor for many aspiring cross-country pilots both within the Geelong club and outside the club through events such as the annual Horsham Coaching Week. He has gathered and analysed flight data to help others understand and improve their performance and coached pilots to fly in world championships.

It is through the many years of dedication, passion and invaluable contributions to gliding that the Geelong Gliding Club nominates Jarek Mosiejewski as a ‘Living Treasure’.
